Gault&Millau partner Malartic partners with the Best World Sommelier Contest in March 2019

Mar 8, 2019

Gold partner of the 50th Best Sommelier of the World Competition 2019, Vignobles Malartic is managed by the devoted Bonnie family, and produces exceptional wines from a range of properties.

The Bonnie family is proud to support all the candidates to the Best Sommelier of the World contest that will be held from March, 11th to 15th 2019 in Antwerp.

Strong and historical relations with the sommeliers

The Bonnie family has thus always maintained very close ties with many sommeliers, regularly receiving them at their properties, and participating in national and international gala dinners organized by Sommellerie associations. And so, having hosted one tasting at DiamAndes for the last international competition, which was organized in Argentina (Mendoza) in 2016, it is only natural that Vignobles Malartic is associated with the 50th anniversary of the Best Sommelier of the World Competition, particularly as it is being held in 2019 in Antwerp, in Belgium, the family’s native land.

Final contest week, March 15th 2019, Antwerp

During the week, wines from their estates will be presented to the candidates during tastings and dinners, giving the occasion to the family to strengthen its relations with the sommeliers.

D. Day: On Friday 15th, just before the final competition, a Vignobles Malartic Master Class will be held by Véronique Bonnie-Laplane, featuring the whites and reds from Bordeaux and from Argentina: 2 hemispheres, 2 terroirs, 1 family! The 200 people will discover the wines’ personalities, grapes varieties and terroirs, and understand the global winemaking philosophy of the Bonnies and its team.

During the gala dinner on Friday night, a sumptuous Malartic white 2012 in magnum will be poured to the guests. A beautiful wine to celebrate the winner!

A family history over the globe

The Bonnie family’s wine-making adventures began a more than 2 decades ago, when Alfred and Michèle Bonnie, of Belgian origin, fell under the spell of Château Malartic-Lagravière, a Grand Cru Classé de Graves in Léognan, near Bordeaux. Their children Véronique and Jean-Jacques and their spouses have since joined them, managing Vignobles Malartic with great energy and commitment. In 2005 the family also acquired Château Gazin Rocquencourt (Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux) and Bodega DiamAndes (Mendoza, Argentina).

Vignobles Malartic has been producing exceptional wines for more than 20 years, always striving to express each terroir, with perfect balance, and exquisite complexity. They are best enjoyed when paired with food and are on many fine tables all over the word!

Vignobles Malartic: Born in Belgium, based in Bordeaux, and with a heart in Argentina!
